Ootake is sent by Great King Enma along with the whole SDF team to close the Demon World Barrier and prevent Yusuke Urameshi from reviving as a Mazoku, although he fails to do so in time and is surprised by the young Spirit Detective, who has awakened as an S Class warrior.Ī resurrected Yusuke manages to incapacitate Captain Ootake with just one blow (a kick to the face), then uses his new demon powers to intimidate the other members into letting Koenma go. The whole Special Defense Force prepared to stop Yusuke and close the Barrier. He is later removed from his position as captain by Great King Enma and is replaced by his subordinate, Shunjun. Although he respects Koenma, even in times when his authority overrides the prince's, he is nonetheless a man focused on getting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. He is the former captain of the SDF, possessing a commanding presence, as seen when he stops the other members from panicking after Yusuke's revival, as well as a stern sense of loyalty. In her human form, Botan can use any of Yusuke's detective items. She has no spirit powers like Yusuke's Rei Gun or Kuwabara's Spirit Sword, but she possesses heightened spirit awareness and spiritual energy (as can be determined by her ability to use the detective tools, which require spirit energy in order to work.) Typically, when Botan fights, she tends to favor blunt instruments like her oar, a metal bat, or, if all else fails, her fists. Botan works hard, cares deeply for others, and tries not to let her friends know when she's down.īotan is not a fighter like those around her, but she has fought several times, often to help Keiko Yukimura to get her out of trouble. Although her initial purpose is to help Yusuke cross over to the Spirit World, or Reikai, Botan eventually becomes a sort of guardian angel to Yusuke, helping him in his efforts to return to his body, and when Yusuke becomes a Spirit Detective, being the liaison between Yusuke and friends, and Koenma in Reikai. Botan is cheerful, sometimes sarcastic, and a completely atypical version of Death (something the main character Yusuke Urameshi points out almost immediately after meeting her).
